What is Android 5.0 Lollipop All About : A Basic Walkthrough

Most Android developers and may be users have heard of the Android team’s DevBytes video series. Usually they show off each and every single piece of Android and offers tips on best app development. This time, they've posted a Brief overview of Android 5.0 Lollipop and everything that devs and users have to look forward.

The video teases a ton of stuff into a few minutes of overview, and it all sounds good. The more we learn about Android 5.0 Lollipop, the more it looks absolutely promising for the next generation of Android devices. Highlights of the video include:

Material Design and Multi-device design –

Google wants Android to go beyond being a phone in your pocket, with Material Design, they plan to bridge the gaps and cracks between hardware.

Enhanced notifications –

Android 5.0 Lollipop has a new floating notifications system that are even accessible from your lockedscreen. The focus the goal here is that developers can provide different notifications, one that is private, containing sensitive information, and one that is a little more public, for the lockscreen where potentially anyone can see it. On a side note, did you notice the Public and Private notification markers in the video.

Concurrent documents in Recents –

We still get the recent button to view all of our open and recent apps. What is new in recent is the ability for an app to place multiple instances means in the ‘recents’ list one app can be stopped at one or more stages like if you are registering for an app and in between you are making a note and then you want to start the app and if it starts with beginning you can go to recents and start the app from where you freeze it. The idea is simple, each browser tab, for example, can be its own entry, allowing you to jump directly to the tab, instead of just to the browser and navigating from there. It looks handy enough.
